MTF for Leica 50mm f/1.2 Noctilux-M ASPH
Leica supplies MTF for f/1.3 (not f/1.2)... is it a typo or is it actually f/1.3?
Leica supplies fantasy MTF for its lenses. That is, the MTF is computed (not measured) based on a computer model, not a real lens. Moreover the data is not corrected for the ray angle effects of a digital sensor. Accordingly, real MTF is unlikely to be as good as Leica presents, particularly at wider apertures.
At f/1.3, MTF of the Leica 50mm f/1.2 Noctilux-M ASPH shows reasonably strong contrast for coarse structures but with field curvature showing a large dip not far away from center. Medium size structures have very modest (poor) definition with a wild variation presumably due to field curvature. Fine details effectively do not exist at f/1.3.
